# Kyrodian Legends Public License 1.0

The characters, settings, and other content specific to Kyrodian Legends (“KLC”) are licensed under the terms of This License.

All rights expressly granted under This License are conditioned upon compliance with its terms. This License governs only copyright and related rights in KLC and does not grant any rights in trademarks, publicity rights, or other legal interests except as expressly stated. Use of names, titles, or marks confusingly similar to Kyrodian Legends in a manner likely to cause consumer confusion is not permitted. For permitted uses, see the Kyrodian Legends Trademark Policy.

Nothing in This License restricts rights granted by applicable law, including fair use, fair dealing, or similar doctrines. This License shall be interpreted in a manner consistent with international copyright conventions, including, without limitation, the Berne Convention.

The Copyright Holders may publish revised versions of This License. You may use, reproduce, and Distribute KLC under the version under which you received it or any later version published by the Copyright Holders that does not reduce the freedoms granted under This License.

Subject to the terms and conditions of This License, each recipient is granted a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license, directly from the Copyright Holders, to reproduce, Distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, and create derivative works of KLC.

Nothing in This License shall be construed to grant any person or group the legal authority, by virtue of copyright in KLC, to impose creative restrictions, consistency requirements, or approval processes on other users of KLC.

**Governing Law**

To the extent permitted by applicable law, This License shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of [Jurisdiction], without regard to conflict of law principles.

## Preamble

This Preamble explains the purpose and interpretive intent of the Kyrodian Legends Public License (KLPL). It does not create additional rights or obligations beyond the operative terms of This License.

Historically, stories functioned as shared cultural inheritance, evolving through collective retelling and reinterpretation. Modern copyright law enables exclusive control over fictional worlds, which can incentivize creation but also restrict the ability of works to evolve through broader participation.

The KLPL is designed to preserve Kyrodian Legends as a living body of work that may be freely used, adapted, and extended. It permits commercial use and does not seek to restrict profit, but ensures that such use does not depend on withholding KLC from downstream reuse.

Accordingly, This License applies copyleft obligations to KLC and to derivative works of KLC, ensuring that additions remain available to future participants. At the same time, it does not extend those obligations to independent works that incorporate KLC as a separable component, provided the conditions of separability defined in This License are satisfied.

The objective of the KLPL is to support an open, continuous creative ecosystem in which contributors may extend and reinterpret a shared world without exclusive control over its future development. The License is intended to prevent forms of distribution, integration, or presentation that, in practice, limit meaningful downstream reuse of KLC or concentrate control over its continued development.

No derivative work may present itself as the primary or definitive continuation of KLC in a manner that obscures its open and collaborative nature.

## 0. Definitions

0. **“KLC”**

All copyrighted expressive content first published by the Kyrodian Legends project under This License, including characters, character designs, settings, species, lore, artwork, dialogue, and music, to the extent such material is owned or licensable by the contributors releasing it. Once released as KLC, content remains KLC regardless of later revision or removal.

1. **“Crossover Work”**

A creative work or software that combines KLC with non-KLC expressive elements.

2. **“Substantive Part”** or **“Substantive Expressive Component”**

“Substantive Part” means use of KLC that materially contributes to the work’s expressive content, identity, or user experience.

Use is presumed Substantive where KLC appears in characters, settings, narrative, visual identity, or marketing. This presumption may be rebutted only where the use is clearly incidental or decorative.

Substantive use shall be determined based on the work as a whole and may not be avoided through technical, structural, or labeling choices.

Use shall be considered Substantive where removal of KLC would materially alter the identity, presentation, or user experience of the work.

3. **“Separability”**, **“Separable”** and **"Practically Reusable"**

"Separable" means that KLC is provided in a form that allows a typical contributor, using commonly available tools, to identify, extract, modify, and reuse the KLC independently of non-KLC content. Typical contributor refers to a person with skills and tools commonly used in the relevant field, excluding specialized or proprietary systems not generally accessible.

This requirement is satisfied only where:

(a) KLC can be accessed and extracted without requiring permission to use non-KLC material, and without requiring reverse engineering, decompilation, or circumvention of protective measures applied to non-KLC content, except to the limited extent such actions are otherwise permitted by applicable law;

(b) KLC is provided in a form that is reasonably suitable for modification, consistent with ordinary professional or community standards, and not intentionally degraded, flattened, compiled, or obfuscated where editable source materials exist; and

(c) the structure, packaging, or integration of the work does not impose artificial, unnecessary, or intentional barriers that materially impede the practical extraction, modification, or reuse of KLC.

"Practically Reusable" shall be evaluated based on whether a typical contributor can, in practice, exercise the rights granted under This License without undue burden, cost, or technical effort beyond what is typical for similar works in the relevant field.

This requirement does not require that any remaining non-KLC work retain functionality, completeness, or value after removal of KLC.

A work shall be considered “Separable” for purposes of This License where its KLC components satisfy this definition.

4. **"Distribution”** or **“Distributed”**

Means any public release, sale, license, display, performance, or provision of access to a work or software, whether free or paid, permanent or temporary, including online publication, physical sale, or public exhibition.

5. **“Cure”** or **“Curing Noncompliance”**

Means taking reasonable steps, as soon as practicable after Notice or discovery, to bring a work or software into full compliance with the requirements of This License.

6. **“Derivative of KLC”**

A work is Derivative of KLC if it incorporates or is based on protected expressive elements of KLC in a manner that would constitute a derivative work under applicable copyright law.

A work does not avoid being derivative solely by renaming elements or making minor or superficial changes where a reasonable observer would recognize the work as based on KLC.

Mere inspiration, genre similarity, or use of unprotectable ideas does not create a derivative work.

7. **“Copyright Holder(s) of KLC”**

The original creator of Kyrodian Legends and any contributors who hold copyright in KLC released under This License. By contributing KLC, contributors agree to license their contributions under This License.

8. **“Notice”**

Means a communication that reasonably informs a distributor that a work incorporates KLC and is subject to This License. Notice may be provided through public communication channels, including but not limited to direct message, email, issue tracker, website comment, or public discussion where the distributor can reasonably be expected to become aware of the communication.

9. **"This License"**

The Kyrodian Legends Public License, including all sections of its operative terms.

10. **“Reproducible Expression Materials (REM)”**

Means the minimum set of materials, in any form or combination of forms, that are sufficient to enable a typical contributor, using commonly available tools, to identify, reproduce, modify, and reuse the protected expressive elements of KLC contained in a work without requiring access to the original Distributed work.

REM may include, as appropriate to the medium, textual descriptions, visual references, structured data, schematics, or other representations that capture the protected expressive elements of KLC in a form suitable for reuse.

REM are limited to what is necessary to reproduce and modify the expressive elements of KLC, and do not require disclosure of unrelated non-KLC material, proprietary systems, or internal processes.

Where such materials exist, REM shall include editable source files sufficient to reproduce, modify, or extract KLC components (e.g., layered artwork files, vector illustrations, 3D models, molds, blueprints, layout files, or project files), and shall not be limited to merely exported or flattened versions such as PDFs, JPEGs, or PNGs.

Where a distributor has created or used editable source materials in the production of a work, such materials shall be deemed to exist for purposes of this definition where they are reasonably recoverable or reconstructable using materials under the distributor’s control. Reasonably equivalent materials must preserve the practical ability to identify, modify, and reuse KLC to a degree substantially comparable to the original editable materials, and shall not materially degrade editability, fidelity, or reuse.

Distributors may not avoid this requirement by failing to retain such materials, and, where disputed, must be able to demonstrate that such materials are not reasonably recoverable or reconstructable.

----

## 1. Terms of Use

0. **Attribution and Origin**

The origin of KLC must not be misrepresented and must be attributed properly. Credit must be given to the Copyright Holders of KLC for creation of KLC and, where practical, must include a link to kyrodianlegends.com.

All attributions for KLC must be provided in a reasonably prominent and accessible manner, such that their source and authorship can be clearly understood by recipients, taking into account the practical limitations of the medium or platform used.

1. **Copyleft for Creative Works**

Any Derivative of KLC must be licensed under This License.

You may not apply legal terms, technological measures, or other restrictions that limit the exercise of the rights granted under This License with respect to KLC or Derivatives of KLC.

In the case of a Crossover Work, clause 1.2 controls the scope of this copyleft requirement.

For the avoidance of doubt, this requirement does not apply to works that are merely inspired by Kyrodian Legends, that do not incorporate any identifiable Kyrodian Legends characters, settings, or protected expressive elements.

Any new characters, species, locations, factions, or narrative elements introduced in a work that is Derivative of KLC and that build upon or extend the Kyrodian Legends setting shall be licensed as KLC under This License.

Any person or entity that Distributes a work containing KLC bears responsibility for ensuring compliance with This License, regardless of whether KLC was incorporated directly or through third parties, contractors, or upstream suppliers.

2. **Crossover Scope Limitation**

In the case of a Crossover Work, the copyleft requirements of This License apply only to KLC and to any modifications, adaptations, or derivative works of KLC.

Independent characters, settings, narratives, code, or other expressive elements that are not derived from Kyrodian Legends are not subject to the copyleft requirements of This License, provided they remain Separable and are not themselves derivative of KLC.

3. **Separability Requirement and Structural Responsibility**

KLC must be provided as REM at the time of Distribution or as part of the same release process, and such REM must satisfy the requirements of Section 0.3 (Separability and Practical Reusability).

Where KLC is Distributed in a compiled, packaged, or access-controlled form, the distributor must also provide the KLC in a separate form suitable for modification.

REM must be provided in a manner that is reasonably accessible to recipients at the time of Distribution, including through a stable and publicly available location.

4. **Copyleft for Software**

Software that incorporates KLC or Derivatives of KLC as part of its functionality or core user experience, as determined by its actual operation and presentation to users, in a manner where KLC is not separate, optional, and Separable shall be licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 or later, or under a license that provides equivalent or greater copyleft protections, including network interaction requirements, to the KLC components.

This applies where KLC is included, embedded, or otherwise made available as part of the software’s intended operation.

KLC shall be considered included as part of the software where it is automatically retrieved, installed, or enabled as part of the default initialization or first-run experience, including where such behavior is presented as recommended, guided, or prominently suggested to the user.

Content shall be considered prominently suggested where it is presented as a default, recommended, featured, guided, or primary option during onboarding or initial use as reasonably perceived by an ordinary user.

This requirement does not apply to:
(a) general-purpose software that merely processes user-supplied content;
(b) software that Distributes KLC separately as a Separable work and does not depend on it.

These exceptions do not apply where, in substance, the software and KLC form an integrated product or where KLC constitutes a Substantive Part of the overall experience.

Software may include integrated systems for discovering, downloading, installing, or managing KLC (including add-on browsers, package managers, or similar Distribution mechanisms), provided that:

(i) KLC is not included by default in the software Distribution;

(ii) the software remains meaningfully functional without KLC;

(iii) KLC is made available as a Separable work in accordance with Section 0.3; and

(iv) KLC is not given preferential or materially favorable technical, functional, or promotional treatment that would cause it to constitute a Substantive Part of the software’s default user experience, including prioritization, highlighting, or default prominence in discovery interfaces.

Such systems do not, by themselves, cause the software to be subject to the requirements of this Section.

Ordinary use shall be evaluated based on the typical user experience as presented by the distributor.

Meaningfully functional means that the software can be used for its primary intended purposes as presented to users, without reliance on KLC.

In determining whether KLC is a separate and optional component, consideration shall be given to the overall design and presentation of the software, including whether KLC is functionally required, preloaded, prominently featured, or presented as a primary or expected component of the user experience.

Formal separation shall not control where the practical effect is integration.

Distribution of KLC and software through coordinated, bundled, or jointly marketed channels may be considered in determining whether, in substance, they form an integrated product.

Distribution, marketing, or technical design strategies that have the effect of making KLC a practical requirement for ordinary use shall be considered evidence that KLC constitutes a Substantive Part of the software, including official documentation, onboarding materials, or ecosystem guidance.

Software shall be considered dependent on KLC where, in practice, ordinary use, learning, or development workflows materially rely on KLC.

These factors shall be considered collectively in determining whether KLC forms a Substantive Part of the software.

5. **Technological Protection Measures**

You may not impose legal or technical restrictions on KLC that limit the rights granted under This License. If Distribution occurs through a platform that does so, you must provide KLC separately in a manner that permits full exercise of those rights.

6. **Physical Merchandise Conditions**

Distributors of physical merchandise incorporating KLC must provide the corresponding Reproducible Materials for the KLC components. This requirement applies only to KLC and does not require disclosure of unrelated proprietary materials. It does not apply where no such materials exist and no deliberate steps were taken to avoid retaining them.

7. **Network Interaction Disclosure**

If a work that is Derivative of KLC is made available for public interaction through a network service in a manner that allows members of the public to experience or interact with the expressive elements of that work, the operator of that service must provide access to the KLC components in REM, satisfying Section 0.3.

8. **Non-Association Disclaimer**

You must make clear that any views expressed in your work are your own interpretation and are not necessarily the views of the official Kyrodian Legends publications or of other contributors.

Narrative works must include a disclaimer indicating that your story is not officially associated with the Kyrodian Legends project or its creators. (e.g., "This publication is not approved by or associated with Kelvin Shadewing.")

No derivative work may claim or imply that it represents the official direction, continuation, canon, or authoritative version of the Kyrodian Legends project unless explicitly authorized by the Copyright Holders of KLC.

No work may be presented, described or marketed in a manner that reasonably implies it is the primary, definitive, or authoritative continuation of KLC as a whole.

9. **No Warranty**

KLC is provided “as-is,” without warranty of any kind. The Copyright Holders disclaim all warranties and shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of KLC, including in commercial or derivative works.

10. **Advertising and Promotional Use**

Nothing in This License grants permission to use the Kyrodian Legends name, logo, or marks in advertising or promotion except to describe a work that incorporates KLC.

KLC may not be used in advertising unless the advertised work itself incorporates KLC.

11. **Community Documentation (Advisory)**

Contributors are encouraged to document new characters, species, locations, factions, or narrative elements derived from KLC that appear as a Substantive Part of a publicly Distributed work. Documentation may include textual descriptions, visual references, structural diagrams, or other representations that enable a typical contributor to understand, recreate, or reuse the derived elements.

Where multiple descriptions of the same derived element exist, contributors may reinterpret or extend the element, but no contributor may claim exclusive authority over its definition. Earlier published descriptions remain valid references for reuse unless explicitly superseded within a derivative work.

Contributors are encouraged to include machine-readable metadata describing derived elements, including identifiers, authorship, and source information, in commonly used structured formats. Documentation that includes textual, visual, or structural representations and a stable URL or repository entry is especially helpful for community reuse.

Where multiple interpretations of a character, setting, or event exist, contributors are encouraged to treat such variations as parallel or alternative continuities rather than resolving them into a single canonical version.

Multiple, conflicting, or incompatible interpretations of KLC are expected and permitted. No interpretation shall be treated as inherently more valid than others by virtue of popularity, coordination, or community endorsement.

Nothing in This License shall be construed to grant any person or group the legal authority, by virtue of copyright in KLC, to impose creative restrictions, consistency requirements, or approval processes on other users of KLC.

12. **Evidentiary Standards for Compliance**

Compliance shall be evaluated based on whether recipients can practically exercise the rights granted under This License, including whether the requirements of Section 0.3 are satisfied in practice.

13. **Moral Rights Containment and Non-Assertion**

To the extent permitted by law, contributors agree not to assert moral rights in a manner that interferes with the rights granted under This License.

Moral rights may be asserted only where required by law and only to prevent substantial harm to the author’s honor or reputation.

14. **Official Reference Materials (Non-Binding)**

The Copyright Holders may publish official Kyrodian Legends materials, including on an official website, that present a coherent interpretation of the setting (the “Reference Continuity”).

The Reference Continuity is provided as a convenient starting point for creators and as an example of how KLC may be used. It does not define an official canon, and it does not limit the ability of others to create, reinterpret, modify, or contradict any aspect of KLC.

No work is required to be consistent with the Reference Continuity, and consistency or inconsistency with it shall not be used to determine the validity, quality, or legitimacy of any work under this License.

Use of the Reference Continuity does not confer authority over other works, and alternative or conflicting continuities are equally permitted.

The Reference Continuity may be made available through an official website designated by the Copyright Holders.

Official materials published by the original creators are one possible continuity among many and are not privileged over other interpretations.

15. **Use of This License by Independent Works**

This License may be adopted, without modification to its operative terms, to license original works that do not incorporate Kyrodian Legends Content (“KLC”).

In such cases:

* References to “KLC” shall be construed as referring to the adopting work’s own designated licensed content.

* Such content does not constitute KLC and does not grant any rights in Kyrodian Legends or its Marks.

* Use of This License must not imply affiliation with or endorsement by the Kyrodian Legends project.

* Use of “Kyrodian Legends” or associated Marks remains governed exclusively by the Kyrodian Legends Trademark Policy.

* The adopting licensor must clearly identify the work or project to which this License applies.

* Modified versions of this License may not be represented as the Kyrodian Legends Public License.

16. **Interoperability with Independently Licensed Works**

Where a work combines KLC with content licensed under this License by an independent project (“External KLPL Content”), the work shall be treated as a Crossover Work.

Copyleft applies independently to KLC and to External KLPL Content. Neither shall be reclassified as the other.

Inclusion of KLC does not grant rights in External KLPL Content, and vice versa.

New elements that combine both (“Crossover Elements”) shall be licensed under This License and must be Practically Reusable consistent with Section 0.3.

Attribution must clearly identify the respective originating projects.

Inclusion in a Crossover Work does not create a shared canon or unified setting.

17. **Legacy Licensing**

KLC may have previously been distributed under other licenses, including Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA). Those licenses remain fully in effect for copies received under their terms.

Where KLC is also made available under the KLPL, it is offered under an additional, independent license. You may choose to use, modify, and distribute that KLC under the KLPL instead of any prior license—but you may not alter the terms of copies you received under prior licenses.

Derivative works created under a prior license remain subject to that license. To distribute under the KLPL, you must rely on KLC designated as KLPL-licensed.

No downstream recipient may remove or alter the terms of any prior license; any such attempt is void and without legal effect.

Independent reimplementations that do not incorporate protected expressive elements of prior works are not considered derivatives and may be licensed independently.

----

## 2. Violations and Community Enforcement

0. **Enforcement of Rights**

Failure to comply with the terms of This License results in termination of rights under This License and may constitute copyright infringement. Legal enforcement of rights in KLC may be pursued by any copyright holder whose copyrighted KLC material is infringed. Rights under This License terminate automatically upon violation and are reinstated automatically upon Cure. Sections relating to attribution, disclaimers, trademark limitations, and downstream licensing survive termination of This License.

Termination affects only the party in violation and does not revoke or invalidate rights previously granted to persons who received KLC or derivative works in good faith while the distributor was in compliance or appeared to be in compliance with This License.

1. **Community Role (Advisory)**

The community is encouraged to maintain compliance by:

* Reporting violations of attribution, licensing, or labeling;
* Providing guidance or corrections to improperly licensed works;
* Sharing corrected or properly attributed versions of derivative works.

Community members do not gain copyright ownership over KLC by assisting with enforcement, and may not use This License to assert control over works beyond the scope of KLC.

2. **Corrective ReDistribution**

If a derivative work incorporating KLC is Distributed but fails to comply with This License due to missing or incorrect attribution, improper licensing, or failure to clearly mark KLC, any person may redistribute a corrected version under the terms of This License, provided that:

* Credit is given to the original contributor(s) of the derivative work;
* Credit to the original creators of KLC and contributors is preserved;
* The KLC content is not misrepresented as being created by the redistributor.

3. **Community Right to Cure Noncompliance**

If a work or software is publicly Distributed and includes KLC, but the distributor fails to comply with the requirements of This License at the time of Distribution, recipients may exercise the rights granted under This License to reproduce and redistribute KLC in order to restore compliance.

Such actions may include:

* Extracting, reproducing, or reconstructing KLC and KLC-related assets from lawfully obtained copies of the Distributed work;

* Separating KLC from non-KLC content where technically feasible;

* Redistributing the extracted or corrected KLC under the terms of This License;

* Providing or supplementing missing attribution or License Notices.

This permission applies only to KLC and derivative works thereof and does not grant rights in non-KLC material. Actions taken under this clause must be proportional and strictly limited to curing noncompliance. Where reasonably practicable, Notice should be provided prior to corrective action, but failure to provide such Notice does not invalidate otherwise lawful corrective actions under this Section.

Actions taken under this Section must be performed solely from lawfully obtained copies of the Distributed work and in good faith for the purpose of curing noncompliance with This License.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, no person shall be liable for actions taken in good faith under this Section that are strictly limited to what is reasonably necessary to effect such cure, including acts that are incidental to accessing or extracting KLC where such access is otherwise lawful under This License.

This Section does not authorize the extraction, access, or reDistribution of non-KLC materials, and does not permit circumvention of applicable laws governing technological protection measures except to the limited extent that such circumvention is expressly permitted by law.

If and when the original distributor brings the work into full compliance with This License, this conditional permission does not retroactively invalidate lawful corrective actions already taken, but does not authorize further extraction or reDistribution beyond what is otherwise permitted.

4. **Severability**

This License shall be interpreted to preserve the maximum enforceability of its terms consistent with applicable law. If any provision of This License is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in effect. Failure to enforce any provision shall not constitute a waiver.

5. **Non-Expansion**

This License governs only KLC and its derivative works. Independent works, communities, or other non-KLC material are not affected, except to the minimum extent necessary to enforce the copyright conditions expressly stated herein.

Nothing in this License grants anyone the authority to control, approve, or dictate the creative content, direction, or “canon” of KLC. No system of editorial control, gatekeeping, or approval is created or recognized.

Works that merely aggregate, bundle, or interact with KLC remain outside the obligations of this License unless doing so would be strictly necessary to prevent circumvention.

Any provision interpreted to exceed the scope of applicable copyright law shall be enforced only to the maximum extent permitted. All other provisions remain fully effective.

This Section is intended to be read in conjunction with:
* Section 0.2 (Derivative of KLC)
* Section 0.3 (Substantive Part / Separability)
* Section 1.2 (Crossover Scope Limitation)

6. **Community Cure Limitation and Non-Agency**

Persons acting to cure noncompliance do so independently and are not agents of the Copyright Holders.

7. **Retaliatory Assertion of Rights**

If you assert legal claims in a manner that restricts the rights granted under This License with respect to KLC, your rights under This License terminate automatically.

Rights are reinstated if the claim is withdrawn or resolved without restricting those rights and any resulting noncompliance is cured.

----

## 3. Illustrative Examples (Non-Binding Guidance)

The following examples illustrate the intended operation and scope of This License. They do not create independent legal obligations, but are intended to guide interpretation of the operative provisions.

In the event of ambiguity or dispute, these examples shall be considered persuasive evidence of the intent of the Copyright Holders and the structure of This License. Interpretations consistent with these examples, where aligned with the operative provisions, shall be preferred over interpretations that expand the scope of copyleft beyond that reasonably implied by their respective Sections.

1. **Copyleft for Software (ref. 1.4)**

Example: A game engine includes a built-in content browser that allows users to download and install optional content, including KLC. The engine is meaningfully functional without KLC, and no KLC is included by default.

In this case, the engine does not incorporate KLC, even if it is designed to support such content, provides integrated download features, or commonly operates with KLC installed.

This does not apply where the software is, in substance, incomplete or commercially impractical without KLC, or where KLC forms a Substantive Part of the overall product experience.

----

## Appendix A: Philosophy of the Kyrodian Legends Public License (Non-Binding)

This Appendix explains the principles underlying the Kyrodian Legends Public License (KLPL). It is provided for guidance and shared understanding. It does not create additional legal obligations beyond the operative terms of this License.

0. **A Shared World, Not a Controlled One**

Kyrodian Legends is intended to function as a shared creative space rather than a centrally directed property. Anyone may contribute to it, reinterpret it, or take it in new directions.

No person, group, or institution has exclusive authority over the future of the setting.

1. **No Single Canon**

There is no single, official, or definitive version of Kyrodian Legends.

Different works may present conflicting interpretations of characters, events, or settings. These differences are expected and are a natural result of an open creative system.

Participants are free to follow, ignore, combine, or reinterpret any existing material.

2. **Freedom Requires Reusability**

The ability to reuse, modify, and build upon KLC is the foundation of this system.

Works should be shared in a way that allows others to meaningfully engage with and extend them. Barriers, whether technical, structural, or practical, that prevent reuse undermine the purpose of the License.

3. **No Gatekeepers**

Communities may form, collaborate, and develop shared preferences or guidelines. However, no individual or group may claim the authority to approve, reject, or control what constitutes a valid Kyrodian Legends work.

Guidelines are tools for coordination, not mechanisms of control.

4. **Attribution Without Authority**

Credit is required so that contributions can be recognized and traced. Attribution supports continuity and collaboration.

However, attribution does not imply control. Being the creator of a work does not grant authority over how others may interpret or build upon it.

5. **Clarity Without Confusion**

The Kyrodian Legends name and identity exist to help people understand what a work is and where it comes from.

Creators should present their work clearly as independent contributions. Audiences should not be misled into believing that any work represents an official or exclusive continuation of the setting.

6. **Many Paths Forward**

Kyrodian Legends is not a single timeline moving in one direction. It is a network of possibilities.

Different creators may take the world in different directions at the same time. These paths may overlap, diverge, or contradict one another.

This multiplicity is not a problem to be resolved, but a feature of the system.

7. **Continuity Through Participation**

The long-term continuity of Kyrodian Legends does not depend on any single creator or group. It depends on ongoing participation.

By contributing, adapting, and reinterpreting the setting, participants collectively ensure that it remains active, evolving, and accessible.

8. **Open by Design**

The KLPL is designed to prevent both legal and practical barriers to reuse, and to discourage the emergence of centralized control through branding, distribution, or community structures.

Where questions arise, interpretations that preserve openness, reuse, and plurality should be preferred over those that enable control, restriction, or exclusivity.

9. **A Living System**

Kyrodian Legends is intended to evolve over time through use.

Its meaning, structure, and direction are not fixed. They emerge from the collective activity of those who engage with it.

No single contribution defines the whole.

----

## Closing Note

This License provides the legal framework for sharing Kyrodian Legends. This Appendix expresses the spirit in which that framework is intended to operate.

Participants are encouraged to act in ways that support an open, collaborative, and continuously evolving creative ecosystem.
